The House of Representatives is set to investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent crash of a Navy helicopter in the Niger Delta. Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Bashir Adamu, said the committee, had already written to the naval authority to furnish it with its preliminary findings on the accident, to determine the committee's next line of action. Independent National Electoral Commission has admitted there were lapses in its arrangement in the just concluded Anambra State governorship elections. The Commission’s Deputy Secretary, Steve Osemeke said there was disenfranchisement of some voters, as there was a mix up in matching some voters’ card with names in the voters’register. Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh has fired four key ministers and appointed four others. Minister of Works, Lamin Bojang,Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources, Antouman Saho, Minister of Local Government and Land, Ismaila Sambou, and Minister of Tourism and Culture, Nancy Njie were all relieved of their duties and replaced. The International Committee of the Red Cross said armed men have released a foreign aid worker held for 89 days in Chad. French aid worker, Laurent Maurice was abducted on 9 November 2009 in Kawa, some 20km from the border with Sudan, where the aid agency is supporting a primary health care center. The Organization said in a press statement Mr. Maurice is tired, but appears to be in good health. Finally, reports say Ethiopian troops in armoured vehicles crossed into two border towns in south central Somalia and arrested the family of a man links to al Shabaab insurgents. Ethiopian troops entered El Barde yesterday and arrested several people today. The troops were onboard armoured vehicles and were searching for a well-known local man, who also works with al Shabaab. The man escaped, but they took with them his wife and three children. |
