NUT Applauds Lagos State Government on Implementation of New Teachers' Salary Scale PDF Print E-mail

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Lagos Chapter has applauded the Lagos State Government for implementing the new enhanced Teachers Salary Scale.

Chairman, of the Chapter, Samson Idowu, said teachers were elated at the development, which was long due. He however, promised that teachers in the state will give all it takes to move public schools to its desired heights.

 

Residents in Lagos State have been urged to ignore text messages and internet messages, alleging the arrival of unlawful trailer load of strangers to the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo said proactive measures are in place to ensure the safety of lives and properties of all law abiding citizens. He however, advised citizens to pass information on all suspicious characters to the police instead of spreading false messages.

 

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Union of Journalists says it had protested to the Police Headquarters and the Nasarawa Government alleged assault on two newsmen by police in Akwanga.

NUJ National President, Muhammad Garba, who expressed disgust over the incident, said the police behaved as if they were in the ``Stone Age''. He said he would petition the Inspector-General of Police and seek redress over the manhandling of the newsmen.

 

Delta State Government has said its Export Processing Zone will enhance delivery of economic benefits to the State. Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Raymos Guanah said the land mapped out for EPZ was not for individual benefit, but for the benefit of all.       

He said the clarification became necessary, following recent protest by some persons, who claimed the land belonged to them.

 

Some residents of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State have urged the state government to introduce a rent edict to control rents in the area. The residents said the measure would check the current high rents being charged in the state.

They lamented that they now pay between N3, 000 and N4, 000 per month for a room apartment in a ``face-me-I-face-you'' residential building.

 

Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko has appealed to residents in the state, to continue to live in peace with each other irrespective of political, ethnic or religious differences.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on media, Governor Wamakko appealed to a mammoth crowd of PDP supporters, to keep the peace in the state. He said ``without peace and unity, there will be no meaningful socio economic development.''

 

 

The National Universities Commission has re-assured Nigerians the Education Road Map Program would be implemented.

NUC former Executive Secretary, Peter Okebukola told newsmen in Lagos that the program was very well on course. He said was designed to proffer solutions to various challenges in the country's education system.

 

Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Bamidele Aturu has called for a review of labour laws in the country to promote rights of workers.

Barr Aturu said there was a need to put in place humane laws that would benefit workers and bring development to the country. He said the existing laws did not make it easy for workers to demand for their rights.

 

Nigerian Labour Congress, Yobe State Chapter, has advised the State Government to implement its report in order to end the frequent strike by the state tertiary institutions.

The Chapter Chairman, Mohammed Bukar, said the report submitted in November last year was comprehensive with inputs from all stakeholders.'' He however, faulted the state assembly’s decision to single out the College of Education, Gashua, from the payment of the salary structure.
